Abhisamaya: A Tribute to the Prajna Paramita

Reason & Mysticism

Diamond-like Reason
     Leaving not a grain unturned,
Piercing appearances
     Through their lack of foundation,
Not denying the illusory experience
     Of illusory appearances,
Profoundly establishing
     Interdependent co-arising

A Mystical Yoga of
      Wisdom and compassion,
Leading every being
      Away from suffering,
To the coalescence of
      Bliss and emptiness,
Outpouring the nectar of
      Spontaneous compassion

To this Prajna Paramita,
      The marvel of
Reason and mysticism,
      Action and meditation,
Scrutiny and faith,
     The vast and the profound
We supplicate.

The Prajna Paramita Buddhist tradition, spearheaded by the ancient universities of Nalanda and Vikramasila, represented the intellectual and spiritual heritage of India for many centuries. Today, not only its view but also its secular and scientific methods of developing the mind are well acknowledged.

Choe Khor Sum Ling (CKSL) Bangalore, established under the spiritual guidance of His Holiness Dalai Lama and Lama Zopa Rinpoche, is proud to bring out this magazine - Abhisamaya. It is a step forward in our mission to make the precious jewels of the Prajna Paramita accessible in India. This first issue of Abhisamaya attempts that through a few glimpses into this vast heritage. Let us rekindle the vibrancy of original Indian thinking in philosophy and spirituality – a tradition that thrived beyond religious boundaries through exploration, exchange and reasoned reliance on scriptures.
